Creating the perfect cat eyes

I always believed that less is more. This also applies to my daily makeup routine which consists of a touch of bronzer, blush, eyeliner and mascara. Day or night, I love doing the “winged” liner – day is subtle and night is bolder. However, learning how to nail the perfect wing has taken me awhile. I have tried many different tools and techniques but, in the end, they all have one thing in common: patience. If you are calm – not shaky, you are guaranteed to succeed.

The winged eyeliner can either be thin or bold, black or colored… Whichever look you go for, I’m sure it would look amazing!

Now, for technique, the tools you choose are up to you. Personally, I like drawing a simple line with a regular Kohl pencil as a base and then applying gel liner with the angle brush to create the slick winged line. Here are some great items

Recipe of the Day: Delicious French Toasts

My favorite thing to do Sunday morning is waking up late and whipping up something delicious. Lately, the most popular request at home are my special French toasts. I usually don’t share my secrets but I will make an exception. These could be served with thinly sliced strawberries  and bananas with syrup or even Nutella. I am sure you will all enjoy these.

Delicious French Toasts

(Serves 2-4)

Ingredients:
  • 8 thick slices of Challah bread, preferably 2-day old
  • 3 small eggs
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup Cointreau
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of cinnamon
  • Tiny dash of Club House Vanilla extract
  • Butter

For garnish

  • Maple syrup
  • Powdered sugar
  • 8 large sliced strawberries

Method

  1. Beat eggs, milk, and cinnamon together in a large bowl. Add orange juice and Cointreau. Make sure to blend very well.
  2. Dip each slice of bread into the mixture, allowing bread to soak up some of the mixture. Make sure it doesn’t soak to much. (Trick: count 2 seconds for each side).
  3. Melt some butter in a large skillet on medium high heat. Add as many slices of bread onto the skillet as will fit at a time. Fry until brown on both sides, flipping the bread when necessary. (I usually use a flat spatula to make sure not to squeeze the French toast)
  4. To serve, add the garnish you prefer. I like to sprinkle powdered sugar with sliced strawberries.

Recipe of the Day: Fresh & Light Greek Salad

Summer is coming up and we need to shed those extra pounds we gained over the winter. Eating filling salads for lunch helps attain this goal – that is if you respect the quantities and if you don’t add a bag of chips or a chocolate bar to the menu. I will be sharing a lot of salad recipes as they are my favorite thing to eat. For the health junkies – or for anyone willing to adventure themselves, this particular recipe is also delicious if you add half a cup or mixed quinoa (red and white).

Fresh & Light Greek Salad

(serves 2-3)
Ingredients:
  • half a cup of crumbled Bulgarian feta cheese
  • 1 box of mini tomatoes (you can mix red and yellow)
  • half a large red pepper
  • half a large yellow pepper
  • half a red onion thinly sliced
  • 10 pitted Kalamata olives
  • juice of half a lemon
  • 2 generous tablespoons of olive oil
  • half a teaspoon of table salt
  • 1 teaspoon of dried oregano

Method

  1. Start by slicing the tomatoes in halves, put them in a bowl and sprinkle only half of the salt. Let it sit for 30 minutes.
  2. While the tomatoes are soaking in the salt, slice all the veggies and put them in another bowl. Try to slice the peppers thin but not too thin or else they will get mushy – and that’s not yummy.
  3. Mix the oil, lemon, salt and oregano. I recommend mix it in a mini Tupperware – allows the dressing to thicken.
  4. Combine the tomatoes, the sliced veggies and dressing. Mix in the feta once everything is well combined.

I am so excited to be writing my first post on my own first blog!

I always believed that, in order to go places, you need to start somewhere; and, that somewhere may be this blog! I thought I could start by sharing the little things that make me smile – fashion, good food and life’s other little pleasures.

I am a Montreal-born young woman who studied Marketing at Concordia University, and is now working in the E-Marketing field. Life could not be any better!

One of my secret obsessions is watching my favorite TV shows. It may not be the most interesting hobby out there but it’s my way to escape for a few hours a week. My list is very long but here is a sample of the shows I do watch: Mad Men, Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, Homeland, The Good Wife and Dancing with the Stars. I relish every moment I have to catch up on my shows, even if it means watching them on my phone during the commute to and from work. Thank you Apple!

Another source of escape for me is reading. Unlike TV shows, I am very picky with the type of books I read: Historical Fiction (particular England in the Tudor era), Biographies, and Novels about love and long lasting friendships. I am currently reading “Love the One You’re With” by Emily Griffin. I am only done 3 chapters but I am already hooked! I will make sure to be posting a review as soon as I am done.

I recently discovered a new hobby – Cooking. Growing up, I used to love hanging out with my mom in the kitchen, helping her prepare holiday spreads and learn all the tricks she learned from her own mother. However, I have moved away from traditional cooking and ventured myself in preparing more modern, everyday meals. My specialties of the moment are light, healthy tacos & fajitas. I love making a Mexican themed dinner party for family and friends. If you are lucky, you might get some of my recipes… 😉

Keeping the best for last – my ultimate passion is my love for Fashion. There’s nothing I love more than spending my Saturdays under the sun, flipping through InStyle and People Style magazines for inspirations. I consider myself a cross between the “Classic Gal” and  “Boho-Chic”. My style icons are Audrey Hepburn, Jennifer Aniston and Emmy Rossum – pretty different ladies huh?!
